Tryouts for the 2013 - 2014 Team
The Varsity Boys and Girls Bowling Team at John Jay is very competitive and a difficult team to make. We only have a varsity program (there is no JV team) and we carry 10 bowlers on the boys team and 10 bowlers on the girls team. Many of our players bowl in youth leagues at Fishkill Bowl or Holiday Bowl. Anyone who enjoys to bowl is welcome to tryout for the team.
The boys team has bowlers who average between 175 and 212. Our 5 starters all have an average over 195.
The girls team has bowlers who average between 100 and 170. Our 5 starters all have an average over 140.
Tryouts will begin on Monday November 18th from 2:15 - 3:30pm at Fishkill Bowl. In order to be eligible to tryout you need two things:
(1) You must be academically eligible to tryout. You must be passing all of your classes or if you have failed 1 class last quarter, you must have an overall average above 70%.
(2) You must be enrolled in and attending at least 5 academic core classes plus physical education.
(3) You must have an updated physical from the school Doctor AND all of your papers / permission forms must be signed and on record in the Health Office. See the Nurse in the Health Office (next to the gym) if you have any questions or to confirm you are on the Bowling list and eligible to tryout. If you are not on the list that the Nurse gives to me on November 13th, you will not be allowed to tryout. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS, SO PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK WITH THE HEALTH OFFICE. In addition to getting a physical, students will need to fill out an Athletic Health History Form that MUST be turned into the Nurse. The School Nurse must review and approve this form BEFORE players will be allowed to tryout. Please click here to access the form and turn it in to the Nurse no later than Friday November 15th at 7:30am.
Once you are academically eligible and you have been cleared by the Health Office, come to see Coach Seipp in Room 111 (near the gym) for additional and updated tryout information.
