John Jay Boys Tennis
Tryouts for the 2014 Team
The Varsity Boys Tennis Team at John Jay is very competitive and a difficult team to make. We only have a varsity program (there is no JV team) and we carry 13 - 15 players. Many of our players play tennis during the off season at local tennis clubs (Cross Court, Taconic Tennis, and the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club). Anyone is welcome to tryout for the team in early March.
Tryouts will begin on Monday March 10th. The first day of tryouts will be a meeting at John Jay from 2 - 2:30 in Room 111 (down by the gym). In order to be eligible to tryout you need two things:
(1) You must be academically eligible to tryout. You must be currently enrolled in 5 core classes plus physical education. You must be passing all of your classes or if you have failed 1 class last quarter, you must have an overall average above 70%.
(2) You must have an updated physical from the school Doctor AND all of your papers / permission forms must be signed and on record in the Health Office. See the Nurse in the Health Office (next to the gym) if you have any questions or to confirm you are on the Boys Tennis list and eligible to tryout. If you are not on the list that the Nurse gives to me on March 14th, you will not be allowed to tryout. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS, SO PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK WITH THE HEALTH OFFICE.
Once you are academically eligible and you have been cleared by the Health Office, come to see Coach Seipp in Room 111 for additional and updated tryout information.
Tryouts begin on Tuesday March 11th outside (weather permitting) from 2:15 - 3:30pm at Taconic Tennis. You must bring your own tennis racket and you must be dressed in tennis shoes.
Please note,
there is a bus available to take you directly to Taconic Tennis
from John Jay after school.
IT WILL LEAVE AT
1:50, SO PLEASE BE ON TIME TO CATCH IT. You will need a bus pass in order to
take the bus. You can get a bus pass from me in Room 111. The bus will then
let you off at 190 Old Sylvan lake road at the driveway of Taconic Tennis.
